Help us 'Raise the

cost is $150,000 and we have reached $125,000 with your assistance!
Keep it coming for the homeless animals of Randolph County!
Kelly Scheidegger with Gus Douglas,
Commissioner of WVDA at recent Homeland Security Training.
Ensuring that the animals of Randolph County are protected!
Shelter Director, Kelly
Scheidegger, Animal Care Technician, Richard Kuhn and Board
Member, Theresa Bruner participate in Homeland Security Training
to protect pets during an emergency. After the
horror of Katrina and millions of Americans watching the heart
wrenching coverage of the pets left behind, Congress passed the
PETS Act (Pets Evacuation Transportation and Standards Act). Now,
all emergency response plans must include the evacuation of pets
with their owners! The West Virginia Department of
Agriculture (WVDA) and the West Virginia Department of Military
Affairs and Public Safety (WVDMAPS) co-sponsored this training
entitled “URBAN TO RURAL (U2R)-ANIMAL DISEASE TRAINING.” The
training focused on federal, state, county, local, volunteer,
private and other organization’s response activities associated
with an animal disease outbreak occurring during a U2R mass migration event from the National Capitol Region.
The training also prepared responders in WV to address animal issues
during any incidents posing an emergency evacuation of people and their pets.
Our shelter employees and the humane society volunteers
will now be working at the regional and local level to assist in
developing an adequate response plan for the animals in our area.

believes that every dog and every cat is a living, feeling being,
