Exciting News!
In
August we broke ground on the first phase of our new shelter, the
new dog kennel building. Construction began in earnest when the
footers were dug and blocks were laid. Brian, our volunteer
construction coordinator, is now preparing for the concrete floors
to be poured and radiant heating to be installed. Lucky dogs!
Financial News
We
have been fortunate to receive donations from a variety of sources.
In August, our annual pancake breakfast at Applebees raised over
$1,000. A big thank you to Applebees and to all those who helped
make this event a success. More recently, Beanders and Peebles have
sponsored fundraisers for us. Dr. Crissman held a rabies clinic and
also a microchip event and donated proceeds to our shelter. We
appreciate all this wonderful help for our animals.
Armstrong Industries recently donated $1,000 to RCHS. A person who
loves animals, and who wishes to remain anonymous, gave $10,000 to
our building fund! Roger and Pearl McDonald of Portland, Oregon,
parents of Brian McDonald, generously gave $25,000!! This brings
our total in the building fund to $104,000. We will need $150,000
for the first phase of our new shelter so please keep those
donations coming.
October Numbers
In the
past month alone RCHS took in 161 animals, had 41 adopted, 12
rescued, 17 went to Rescue Waggin, 10 were fostered and 15 were
reclaimed. Please continue to spread the word about spaying and
neutering your pet so that there will be fewer unwanted animals.
Rescue Waggin
Through the hard work of our shelter manager, Kelly and kennel
technician, Rich, we are now on board with Rescue Waggin. Rescue
Waggin is affiliated with PetSmart Charities and is one of only two
in West Virginia. This will help place dogs in need of adoptive
families into loving homes in other states. This has meant a lot of
hard work for our shelter staff, but is a wonderful opportunity for
our dogs.
Home for the Holidays
From
November ___ until New Year’s Day IAMS will sponsor Home for the
Holidays. Our goal for this year is ___. While holiday time is
often a time for families to adopt a new pet, many others turn their
pet over to the shelter. Make sure that if you are considering
adopting a pet that you are ready for a lifetime commitment.
There
will be an off site adoption at the Seneca Mall on November
29-December 1 from 10-3 during the Holiday Craft Show. Come and see
our adorable animals!
Kelly’s 5th Anniversary
One of
our greatest blessings has been Kelly Scheidegger, our devoted
shelter manager for the past five years. Kelly’s hard work,
especially her tireless efforts in working with rescues, has saved
the lives of hundreds of animals this year alone. Thank you Kelly!
Our Needs
With
the emphasis on our Capital Campaign for the new shelter, this
leaves us cutting expenses to the bone for operational costs.
Please consider making a donation or sponsoring a pet for adoption
at this time of great need.
Thank You
Thank
you to all of you this past year who have volunteered at the
shelter, walked dogs, cuddled cats, cleaned kennels, sponsored
animals, held off-site adoptions, helped with our yard sale, or
assisted in construction efforts. The animals of Randolph County are
so fortunate to have you on their side. We at the shelter and on
the board of RCHS wish you and your loved ones a wonderful holiday
and a joyous 2008!
