As an RCHS volunteer you may work in the shelter, at home, or the community. You may choose to help with a single event, or to commit a couple hours a week on an ongoing basis.
Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of tasks. All volunteers must be over 16 years of age and attend a training session and an orientation meeting. (anyone wishing to volunteer under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian)
Bathing and Grooming
Bathers and groomers work with animals in our adoptable wards. Cats and dogs are brushed, bathed and treated for fleas as needed.
Pet Socialization
Walk a dog...cuddle a cat! The Humane Society depends on volunteers to walk and play with our friendly, adoptable pets. Regular play time provides exercise and relief from stress, and is a great way to interact with our homeless pets.
Special Projects
The shelter often has need of volunteers with special skills, such as carpentry, plumbing, gardening (weeding, trimming shrubs, mowing), painting, janitorial work, laundry, building maintenance, and data entry.
Special Events
You can get involved without ever having to visit the shelter by helping out at Special Events. Volunteers with a wide variety of skills are needed on a regular basis, such as at the Giant Garage Sale in May, Kitten Shower, Bark in the Park, A Fetching Ball as well as a variety of other activities throughout the year.
